9:00 am - 10:30 am Interactive Acrylics Barry Sholder Gallery Chroma

Lecture Description
By rethinking the typical formulation methods, Jim Cobb - Chroma’s owner, founder, paint maker, artist and educator - designed a paint so revolutionary it now has a patent pending. The innovative features of Interactive give artist’s time to work they way they want. Because the paint doesn’t form a skin, it offers broad appeal to all types of artists. Using only water during a normal painting session, Interactive gives artists plenty of time for blending, feathering, edging, etc., and even allows touch-dry paint to be reworked, revealed, shaped and blended. At the demonstration, Barry will introduce the product, speak to its features and benefits and then get the attendees to begin painting. This demonstration is designed to be interactive and fun. Chroma will supply the paint and mediums necessary. The attendees will supply their own surfaces, brushes and associated materials. Door prizes and literature packets will be available.

Chroma, Inc. invites you to join them for an Interactive Professional Artists’ Acrylic PAINT LIVE! demonstration. The demo will focus on how to reblend and rework the paint even after it is touch dry, as well as usage for all the integral mediums - Binder, Slow, Fast/Fixer, and Unlocking Formula. You can experience Interactive yourself and discover how it can transform your acrylic painting process. There will be drawings for art-related prizes — you’re sure to be inspired!

11:00 am - 12:30 pm Silk Painting Martha Andreatos Gallery Jacquard

Lecture Description
Have you been intrigued by the beauty of silk art but had questions like what is the difference between silk paint and silk dye and how are they used? What is gutta and water based resist? What do I need to get started? See for yourself the different types of silk paints and dyes and how they are used. Everyone will have a chance to make a small silk painting right there using silk paints and gutta. Join us for fun, learning and a great take home project.

What is silk painting? First the silk is stretched tightly over a frame. Then a “resist” is applied. This resist acts as a little dam for the dye. Dyes are then applied and blended to achieve different colored effects. The piece is then permanently fixed using either steam, heat or a chemical process. After fixing the dyes become both light and color fast. The silk can then be hand washed with gentle soap or dry cleaned.

Instructor Bio
Artist, Martha Andreatos, lives and produces her wearable art in Atlanta Georgia. As a textile artist Martha works with all types of fabrics from comfortable cotton to luxurious silks. Martha has worked with hand painted designs on cotton clothing for many years but recently expanded her art to include silk paints and dyes. She fell in love with silk painting because of its versatility. Silk can be dyed to create art that ranges from simple projects such as scarves and sun catchers to intricate beautiful paintings. Silk is luxurious to wear and to work with. The dyes express the color and vibrancy of the designs like no other medium can. Her work can be viewed on her website at www.SilkArtandDesign.com.
